Chris Campbell's Yankee 30 Site

Welcome! This site is my effort to keep track of my boat ownership and the restoration of my 1972 Yankee 30, as well as to communicate it to all who are interested. I purchased the boat in the fall of ’08 with the plan of being in the water in the summer of ’09, and of “completing” (are boats ever complete?) the restoration a few years after that.

Needless to say, that hasn’t happened. My first stage was to build a boat shed in Portuguese Cove, where I was living at the time. That went well, and is documented here. I then proceeded to find more problems with the boat than I had expected, but made good progress on them regardless. I moved my expected launch date to 2010 as a result.

Then I decided to move! The boat shed was going to stay (in the end only half of it did due to unforeseen land disputes, but that’s another story), meaning that the project was going to be knocked back another year at least. 2010 was move year (the move literally took 3 months to pack and execute), with renovations to part of the new property taking up the fall and winter.

The new house didn’t come with a boat shed, so that was the first order of the day, followed by getting the boat ready to sail. At this point I’m hoping to launch in 2013 – although I don’t think I’ll be done with the restoration, since I’ve gotten more and more ambitious plans as I’ve progressed.

Enjoy the site, and enjoy chuckling at a person with more belief in the goal than common sense!
